祖辈也是靠拼搏发迹的呀。
周湘云家族——地产大亨曾是苦出身 周湘云家族有“房地产大王”之誉，在公共租界工部局纳税人的名册上排名第五。拥有第一号汽车牌照的是周湘云的弟弟周纯卿，时间长达40年之久。 有地、有房、有钱、又有一号汽车，这么显富的周家其实是个苦出身。当年，周湘云父辈兄弟三人为生计所迫，先后乘鸭蛋船从宁波闯到了上海滩。从一只咸蛋“过”两顿饭的苦日子过起，他们很快就发现了上海滩的“金矿”，各自开拓了一片天地。19世纪末，大哥二哥去了武汉，三弟周莲塘留在了上海。到周莲塘的大儿子周湘云接管家业时，周家已号称有500万家产。  周湘云位于青海路44号的花园洋房是上海滩有名的豪宅。墙上铁牌上刻的是房子建造的年月以及洋行设计师戴维斯·布鲁尔的名字。房屋呈狭长状，南端是用于祭祖的祠堂，北端是前楼和后楼。前楼大厅的卷帘大门在当时是顶时髦的，当年大厅左侧是餐厅，右侧是会客室。二楼是卧室，正南的主卧带挑出的圆形阳光房。底楼坐电梯可以直达三楼的大平台。后楼为条状，由长廊连接各个房间，并有后天井。宅子的中央是花园，小桥流水，山石玲珑，两棵百年香樟精壮挺拔，与盘曲遒劲的百年古藤相得益彰。1950年初，这栋花园洋房由华东局外贸机关租用。其后，先后为上海市公费医疗第五门诊部及岳阳医院门诊部。 位于延安中路1101号的花园以前叫“学圃”，当年周湘云就是在那里宴请宾客的。那里不仅有小桥流水、亭台楼阁，还养着孔雀、金鸡等小动物。后来花园辟出一块土地造景华新村，正门开在巨鹿路上。解放后这里造了延安饭店。 第一号汽车牌照拥有者周纯卿的私宅位于南京西路806号，这是一座有罗马式廊柱的大厦，解放后变身为静安区少年宫。 华山医院西边的花园人称“周家花园”，这是周纯卿的“莼庐”，即避暑之地。抗战胜利后，周家将之卖给了虞洽卿之子虞顺蔚，更名“蕊园”。 12月21日 Poems written by husband to wife
